Hey guys, I've gone into Best Buy a couple of times and depending on where I go there are some displays set up to show off their HD TV's and/or movies (blu-ray I think). They always seem to have 1 thing on all the time though, Pirates of the Caribbean, and it always looks realisticly clear! I myself have a Sharp Aquos LC-C3242U and have a PS3 set up to it using an HDMI cable, but none of my Blu-Ray movies come close to looking anything like what they have in the store. What's their secret? Even that octopus guy looks realistic and isn't he supposed to be CGI?!?!

Their secret is high ambient lighting levels... and probably upscaling a standard dvd ;)

Also, the sets are not properly calibrated. They are setup for the high intensity lighting in the store. A friend of mine has a Samsung 60 inch DLP and when he got his set at home, it was extremely too bright for his room. So it had to be properly calibrated to tone down most of the colors and especially the brightness.

Any way to calibrate this without going out to buy something?

I'm pretty sure I know exactly what you're talking about, as I noticed the same thing.

There are probably 2 big reasons why you are not getting the same picture on your TV.

1. They are showing it on a 1080P set....looks like yours is a 720p/1080i

2. They are most likely showing it on a set that runs a 120hz frame rate.

Hope this helps.

I found your comment interesting. I can't stand watching a film on a 120hz LCD. The film quality is lost to what I guess might be what the OP calls "realisticly clear", which I imagine means a shot on video/game show sort of look. Good for sports, terrible for movies.

this is something that ive been wondering for some time now. some blu ray movies look so real, for instance transformers & iron man. i have a 1080p 32 inch samsung tv and my blu ray movies look good but not like that. i have always wondered what the difference was and i was guessing it was the 120hz display. my tv is only 60hz. i agree with the last post, when the movie looks like that its a little uncomfortable to watch. maybe u can get used to it. i guess my question is answered now
