- Same problem with or without modchip installed
- Brand new KHS-400C laser installed - 100% sure it works flawlesly (tested it in 3 other PS2, also tried others KHS-400C on this PS2)
- 100% sure the LA6508 driver is OK.
- there are no focus problems. It focuses pretty quickly with any media, CD or DVD
The problem:
it has problems identifiing the type of media, wheter if it is DVD-Video, PS2 DVD, PSX CD...
For example, it usually mistakes PS2 DVD for DVD-Video. But, obviously, nothing is played.
If i insert a real DVD-Video, it goes to the DVD Player but can´t play the disc. no error message, just don't play the disc if you press "Play" (goes back to stop without error message).
IMPORTANT:
I noticed something that may give us a clue: Audio CD works, BUT the audio feels "dirty"!
It's ALMOST like hearing a vinil LP.
if you raise the volume, you can clearly hear that the audio is not OK.
I'm pretty convinced that this problem with the audio is related with the systems' dificulty to identify the kind of ROM media inserted. I believe that the same problem that "smudjes" the audio makes the data interpretation dificulty and corrupts data...
I'm experienced fixing videogame consoles, that's actualy my full time job. but this PS2 is giving me a headache...
I believe that this problem can be caused by a pretty simple problem (or not), but until this very moment, i have not been able to find it. it could be as simple as a bad resistor, or bad flat cable connector on the mainboard...
I you're experienced with electronics and have a clue, please post it.
