PSX Gameshark 4.0 on Modded Slim 79k PS2?

Howdy,

I'm attempting to play Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night on my Modbo 4.0 modified PS2 Slim 79k using a PS1 Game Shark 4.0 disc, just for fun.
I am able to load codes via the PS1 Gameshark 4.0 and launch Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night, however whenever I get to the load memory card screen in Symphony Of The Night, the game locks up. Is there anyway to get around this, and still be able to use GS codes?

I completed Symphony Of The Night in the late 90s and wanted to walk through it again just for the hell of it.

I'd appreciate any help that could be provided.
