A good point, well made. I suppose we're only getting warmed up in the power struggle. It only means lower prices and higher performance for the dollar for us, the end consumer.

Which is why in a way that it's good that new stuff is forever coming out, the bad point is that no matter what you buy, it's out of date almost immediately.

Made this today.
What is this you ask?
It's my stock heatsink with a marine conversion!!!

Here's the pump:

200 litres per hour submersible.I submerged it in ice water and gave it a "DRY" run today((IE:no where near my precious mainboard!!)No leaks, thats good!!I put the waterblock in the oven first to get some heat into it,got it at the temp where you can just hold you hand on it,then pumped cold(but could have been colder)water through it.Within less than 1 minute it was cold, after probably 2 minutes it was icy cold!!(I'm hoping condensation won't be a problem as the stock fan sitting on top will help + I'm going to leave the side off of my case with a 30cm pedastal fan blowing a hurricane inside the case!!!!!)but it had a thin layer of condensation on it so that's where the fans will hopefully work. Total cost $23 Aust!!!!
The pump was $11 Australian and it's got a 3 year warranty!!Going to plumb it up tommorrow.

Homemade water cooling would previously have had me say "that's got carnage written all over it!" but I wish you the best of luck with your project!

sammorris,
I'm not that adventurous.

Throw in some Glycol and I'm still liquid at -18 degrees c. 10 litres should stay cold for a while. We have a chest freezer so I will cool it in there.

crowy,

I couldn't locate the 875P-T, but I found this one in stead, an 865pe-tag. The 865PE chipset is fine. In fact, the 865 PE is one of the chipsets being re-worked for the Conroe but the 875P-T isn't!.

Plus after looking at it for a while it and my Asus P5P800 SE, they are very similar MBs. both on the 865 PE chipsets so I would like to see how they compare. BTW The manual is beautifly done!

One thing I would like to know is how many stages does it have for it's on-board voltage regulation? Seems I've been down this road once and I'de like not to do it again! Maybe you can find out for me.

If it's better than 3 stage regulation, we have a winner!

Happy Computering,
theone

crowy,

I looked at the epox MB and I went to their site. It's not compatable with the D940. I think I'll stick with the 865PE-tag. I'm going to check with DFI today and see if I can find out more about the voltage regulation.

And here's a sandra math screenshot

All went according to plan.Haven't had time for any stability tests yet but for now I'm over the moon:)Absolutely no condensation issues what so ever.I'll do some more benching when I've got this water sub-zero.Have to go and chop some wood and do some shopping back later.
