Hello. I want to get SMS onto my PStwo (slim, un-modded) so that I can watch divx videos. From what I understand, I need to first get FreeMCBoot onto my PStwo so that it can run remote code.

I've decided (I forget why) to use the Action Replay method. But I haven't quite figured out which one I should use.

The simplest method seems to be outlined here:
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmcb/en_armax.htm
... using the Action Replay Max Evo and the Max Media Player

But which should I choose:

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/pa...%7C10199870.htm
or
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PS2-Action-Replay-...id=p3286.c0.m14

The first one is an AR Max (no mention of Evo), but specifically mentions the Max Media Player. Comes with a 16mb memory card.
The second one is an AR Max Evo (although the description could be wrong), but does NOT mention the Max Media Player despite mentioning every other boring feature of the Action Replay. Comes with a USB memory drive.

From what I gather, the Max Media Player is essential in the FreeMCBoot installation process (for slims anyway), but will the first version (above) let me do everything else that needs to be done (copying to and from USB drives, etc), or do I need an Evo?

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

Hello chums. I'm Mr Darcy.

Hey, I just had exactly the same problem a couple months back, I feel your pain :o)

EDIT: ok just wrote the below and forgot it ONLY works with FAT PS2s. Really hope you got one, or can find one, otherwise... erm... If you wanna post your memory card to me I'll install FreeMCB for you, nothing else needed.

EDIT 2: I should read threads before replying eh? If you wanna post your mem card to me and cover return postage too then I can install FreeMcBoot on to it, pm me for more, I'm UK based. Not sure about SMS but I'll look in to it if you want me to, unless you know how :o)

Anyway, first things first, the AR version mentioned in the linked guide doesn't actually exist any more, at least not in the UK. AFAIK none are manufactured with Max Media Player any more, and any referencing it, however specifically, are just wrong. fwiw though the ebay one you linked will be fine with the below, couldn't comment on the first but media player or no, if it won't access USB drives you're stuffed.

Secondly, wrong guide. I wrote this one myself after trouble with that one (primarily not having max media player):
http://bootleg.sksapps.com/tutorials/fmc...loit_armax.html

Basically, Mas Media Player isn't that important, it makes things easier but is no longer included on UK AR Evo discs. That said, afaik you DO want an Evo branded box, or at least one with a memory manager included that can access USB drives. I don't know if they all will, but so long as a USB stick is bundled with the thing it's a guarantee.

This is the one I bought, from BMCdigital on trade, £15.95 shipped.:
http://www.play.com/Games/PlayStation2/4...on/Product.html

It doesn't included Max Media Player, but did include a (black coloured) USB stick and memory management screen. Obviously I was kinda annoyed but then went about figuring out myself how to make it work :oD I'm not sure if the other sellers will sell the same one, but like I say if a USB stick's included it's fine.

You then need a PS1 game (any should do), and the rest is relatively simple.

You can either follow the guide above (edited by someone else, a bit of stuff lost in translation) or my original at:
http://psx-scene.com/forums/freevast/591...t-help-pls.html

All you really need to do is create an exploit file based off the serial of a PS1 disc, save it as an AR Max exploit, stick it on a USB stick along with FreeMCboot and ESR, load up AR, copy the save from the stick to the memory card (wait, it takes forever to show up), insert PS1 game and wait for exploit to take over, launch FreeMCb installer and you're off. All needed files and info linked in said guides, verified functioning as of a couple months back :o)
