Could some Windows XP settings slow down my Computer? if so can anyone explain what i can do to speed up my computer?

What do you mean by settings???

There are a number of things that you can do to speed up your computer

1- Defragment your hard drive(s) by using a free program such as Defraggler, or Auslogics Disk Defrag

2- Clean your registry by using a program like CCleaner

3- Use a general tune-up program like Advanced Windows Care, or Tune Up Utilities

These should help speed up your computer, you can also reduce your computer's boot up time (make it start up faster), by reducing the number of programs that start on boot up, using WindowsCare, or CCleaner

I've already used a Registry Cleaner and defragged my HDD but i do have "alot" of programs on my computer i have like 50 Programs a program for everything so maybe thats the problem...

You should remove any program that you don't use, as that will help you, but probably only a bit

Also reduce startup programs, any programs that you don't need as soon as you start your system, a this is more likely to speed up your system (if you're not sure about a program, ask us or google before you remove it)

Also use the general tune-up apps that I mentioned, they will help

well how do i access my startup menu? run command: win config? or something...

Naw, that's really complicated

Get the program I mentioned called Advanced WindowsCare Personal, it's free, and has a section where you can see all startup programs and disable some of them if you want to

Google it with download at the end, and you will find multiple download locations

actually it's not... Just Remembered: wsconfig brings into the start menu just enter the text it into the root command and there you go...

hit start then run type in msconfig click start tab ucheck anything you dont need to boot with.

It's not how many programs you have it's how many programs and Windows Services you have running. Security apps can be a big drain on performance (some more than others) but are a necessity. Amount of RAM also comes into play. Follow what Ray92 has to say about computer maintainance and cut back on all programs running in the backround you don't need. Go to Task Manager > Processes. How many are running? Rule of thumb: 40 or less is good. More than 40: Start hunting for things to disable at startup (or at least make manual).
