Installing XP: Is there an easiest way to Install a OS "e.g XP" in USB enclosure


Booting XP: Is it possible and how to put a bootable OS Installer "e.g XP" in USB Enclosure.

booting from usb is all about the pc's ability to boot from USB devices...

if your BIOS suppports the option then a USB hard disk will be treated exactly the same as a internal hard disk by the windows setup process.

i actually use one at the mo - it has a standard install of xp on it, and the pc has no internal hard disk... mean no one can use the pc unless they kno to plug the usb disk in first.. lol

can only use that drive on that pc unless other pc's are identical.

@ ddp - that is very true to a point.

most of the pcs i use (this is work you see) are running on boards with intel processors and very common chipsets most of whom have drivers built into windows (and the windows install has its install files on the disk, so if it needs to install new devices it can find the drivers easily), but still, you are correct - i cant just take it to any PC and expect it to work automatically, tho still the biggest problem is boards that dont do USB boot...

@ albert02 - if you want portability have a look at WinBuilder - it uses the Windows Preinstall Environment (WinPE) to give you WinodwsXP on CD or USB:
