Weird problem loading psx backups

I have an incredibly strange problem loading the vast majority of my playstation backup games. I've got one of the new style psOne's a legitimate action replay disc and have set-up the console so the disc tray button is constantly depressed, so the console thinks the tray is always closed.

It all starts easy enough, I find an iso burn it 4x raw/dao on Alcohol 120% put my Action Replay in my psone start it up, swap the disc for a burned copy then have it boot.

It goes to the opening screens where it has the company logos and what not then proceeds to load the main menu and right here is where it always stops. I have only reached the main menu on one game, which is a translated copy of Persona 2: innocent sin. Is this because P2 is patched or am I making some sort of fatal error. I'm incredibly tempted to just buy a mod-chip but the whole scene has all but vanished and I'm not sure what stores are legitimate and what I should be looking for. I found one here http://www.mod-chip.bz/catalog/stealth-psone-modchip-p-41.html and have no idea if it's what I should be getting or what.

Has anyone else had this problem? Am I totally dead on open water and should I just get a mod chip? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Alright after a lot more research and tinkering with my psone I am totally lost. Everything I'm doing correctly doesn't seem to match up with what the internet says I should be doing. It's actually quite crazy really I seem to have invented a new boot method all to myself which is different than the traditional double swap game trick. But I did try the double swap trick when I was having bad luck with some of my games and I think I've come to a conclusion.

What's going on with my burnt games freezing at the introductory load screen is that they are CCD image files. All of the games that came as a bin/cue work flawlessly and the ones I have trouble with are CCD files. The strange thing is when I burn the games with CloneCD I get a new coaster; it refuses to load the game at all, just a black screen. But when I use alcohol it actually plays the publisher screens then cuts to an endless load screen. I have tried every trick the internet seems to have come up with and it seems nothing is working at all. I've tried to burn the CCD files with their respective IMG and SUB file using alcohol and no luck. I've also tried converting them using UltraISO to a bin/cue file and that also gets me no luck. I've even taken the ones burnt as CCD and ripped them onto my computer, again with no luck. I don't think they're bad images either because they work on my psp as an eboot but refuse to work on my psone.

I am at a total loss I could really use help from anybody willing to give it, thanks again.
