cant send text but can recieve HELP!

Recently got this phone off someone and it worked for them so know it's possible. I can make outgoing calls no problem and recieve incoming text but every time I try to send sms text the phone says failed and simply save it to the outbox. It's a Nokia 6300 on Vodaphone (I live in UK). Phone is unlocked and also tried O2 sim in the phone and encountered same issues. The O2 sim and vodaphone sim both work in my sony ericsson so it's not a network provider issue but a phone setting. Treid default settings but no joy. Any suggestions or anyone had this issue too? Thanks in advance.
