OS: Windows XP

Background: after installing a copy of Office my computer has become very slow. I scanned the files of the Office set-up and no viruses showed up with my Sympatico Security Manager. After installation my a problem occurred while trying to activate and my PC shut down.

After re-starting I noticed Groovemonitor and 'gbedgwr' in the start-up config. I've since disabled them for start-up.

Also, after re-starting my PC became very very slow.

Problem: Now when I try to remove Office 2007 with add/remove programs I get the following message:

"The language of this installation package is not supported by your system."

When I try to manually delete the program file folder: Microsoft Office I am stopped by files associated with GrooveMonitor or Groove. I have deleted everything in the folder I am capable of, but now I'm stuck.

What do I need to do next? How do I get the Office 2007 completely off my PC? What else might I need to do?

At the moment I am running a full system virus scan with Sympatico Security Manager.

Thanks

Office 2007 might be one of those awkward software apps. With Norton 2008, everything contained in office apparently a virus of some description. I removed norton (AVG pro takes it's place) and all is now ok with the world. If you Uninstall your A/V perhaps 2007 might run as expected. Save your registration info before uninstall...:P

Worth a try you think?

Cheers.

Hi harryarch

Look Here:

Generally, I don't think you have to uninstall anything. I will not recommend the solution where it tells you to reinstall your operating system.

You'd be surprised how I got these answers: by googling. Sometimes a little research can turn out to be amazing. :) I know this from experience.

Here's a little something about Groove Monitor
http://www.castlecops.com/s14247-GrooveMonitor.html

And I'm not sure about gbedgwr. Why don't you go ahead and follow the instructions below:

Please download the HijackThis zip file. Save it onto a convenient place in your computer, and then unzip the file.

Rename HijackThis(.exe) to scanner(.exe).

Next, run scanner(.exe). A window will pop up.

? Click on the button which says Main Menu, then Do a system scan and save a logfile.
? Please wait for the scan to be completed.
? After the scan has completed, a text window will pop up. Please post the contents of this window here.

This will also be located at hijackthis(.txt) in the same folder that HijackThis was originally saved.

NOTE:: Do not fix anything using HijackThis, as this may also damage legitimate components of your computer.

Best Regards :D
