Hi all,

I've made an almost-complete transfer from PC to OS X recently, but this one point is buggering up the process.

Basically I'd like to know if anyone has discovered an easy, reliable means of embedding subtitles - srt files, usually - into a divX file in OS X.

I've tried all of the methods that turn up in google - avidemux, ffmpegx etc - but despite varying lengths of time taken (avidemux is quick, ffmpegx takes forever) none of the processes seems to work. I end up with a file that none of my media players - Mplayer, VLC, divX player - believe contains a subtitle track.

Has anyone managed to properly nail this?

Hope someone can help, with either detailed instructions and settings, or by merely pointing me to a magic wand...!

Hi,

It's actually very easy in the mac nowadays.

You just open the file in Quicktime, after installing the "perian plugin" which embeds the srt or sub, (any subtitle with the same name.)
Then just save the video, and you got yourself a mov file with embedded srt.
This one you can easily burn as a DIVX file again in Toast. Or if you do not want a cd, just "save as disk image" Then mount this image and there is your divx!

This work for me with all movies, whatever format they are in, divx, avi, mov, whatever .
The reason that i choose to save, and not export directly in Qucktime to divx, which is also possible is that with saving you have results within 5 minutes.

Good luck
