Has anyone noticed that the first generation PS3's (models with 4x usb ports) support Super Audio CD (SACD) -AND- that it is now possible to load Ubuntu/Linux on those machines now?

Since those 1st gen PS3's support SACD playback is it theoretically possibly that the SACD data is accessible for ripping on that platform?

Any thoughts?

No, it's not.
There are no drives that can actually see the raw data.
Sony will not allow it.
What you can do is record the analogue outputs from any player into a multitrack DAW though.
PS3 HDMI (like all HDMI)uses a handshake protocol to stop this happening, and it cannot be broken any more than the watermarks in LPCM/MLP be removed.

Sorry.

Oh - BTW - Sony have dropped SACD support from all but the first gen PS3 anyway.....

Er, they haven't.
There are no PC that play SACD, but one of the newer models will write a DSD Disc - huge difference.

And yes, they certainly are a funny lot.
