USB 2.0 on USB1.0 or USB1.1 port

I want to buy a new external dvd writer, but can you connect the USB2.0 cable on a USB1.0 of 1.1 port? (I don't know if I have got a USB1.0 of 1.1 port)

Until usb 3.0 or whatever the newest incarnation is going to be called ? you can connect a Usb 1 cable to a Usb 2.0 port and vice versa ! the ports are the same but you will probably get better results , faster burns ect... from USB 2.0 as it is a faster system than 1.0 ! most devices that work on a USB 2.0 Jack will work on a 1.0 jack as well but more slowly also if you already have usb 1.0 cables they should work fine n a 2.0 system as well! If your working both internal and externl drives at the same tme = simultaneous burns ( multiple cois at the same time !!!then you probably won't hit the maximum speed but you decrease your worktime because yur doing more than one at the same time ! hope I did'nt confuse you too much & hope this helped?

Indeed, USB pre 2.0 is no good for burning/transferring any data, and USB2.0 is fine for 8x burning. I believe that's the max speed for USB2.0 though i've never tried higher personally..

And i'll wholeheartedly agree with being able to burn via internal drives alongside USB2.0 drives, i do this heavily and often, it's rude not to :)
