Help reformatting hard drive

Hi, im trying to reformat my Fujitsu Laptop Lifebook N Series. When i insert the disk to reformat and install a fresh copy of windows xp, i would have to boot the cd up manually instead of it telling me to push any button to boot up the cd. But, when it loads up all the components to reformat, it says that it did not detect a hard drive. How is that possible when there is a hard drive? How do i fix this?

Actually i have the Fujitsu N Series 6410
Yes, i can access the BIOS, but i am totally unfamiliar on how to use the BIOS. What settings would i have to change to make my laptop detect the hard drive?

Put your original xp disc in a drive, go back into bios and then select boot from that drive. From there you should be able to either reinstall the os or enter the repair console. Any good?

i had thought u understood my problem. I have NO problems booting up the disc. The problem is that when i insert the disc and try to install a fresh copy of Windows XP, it tells me that the hard drive was not detected.

possibly need to load sata driver when xp says press f6 for 3rd party driver(s).

lol, yea i tried to press F6, and it didnt do anything. The next time i tried, i press F6 as fast as i can when it said too, and it did nothing lol.

I going to "ditto" what everyone is telling you. I did a search for your issue and this is a quote from the Fujitsu website:
"The only problem you might encounter during installation is if the installation will not detect the HDD. This means that your XP CD doesn't have the necessary SATA drivers on it and you will have to add them."

I didn't see any SATA drivers on the link posted earlier. I don't have this model of computer to test, but the following link should have the drivers that you need.

You'll need a USB floppy drive to install the drivers. When the XP install disk boots up and you press F6 to install 3rd party drivers, you'll then place the floppy with the drivers from the site above into the USB floppy drive. By the way, when you press F6 the computer will continue to load files as normal. It'll be a little while before you get a screen asking you to add the additional files.

I havent replied in this thread for a long time. But what i tried to do was to install the SATA drivers with the .exe on the desktop, and restarted the laptop. Then i try to boot up the windows xp cd again, this time, it did detect the harddrive. Not the main one.
On the hard drive selection screen it says
C: Partition1 [FAT] 961 MB < 946 MB Free>
I know that this is not my main hard drive. This is the backup one, or the partition of the main hard drive. Why did it detect the auxiliary hard drive, but not the main one?

Well, for extra information. The laptop is on windows vista, and im trying to reformat it into windows xp. As i mentioned above. My main hard drive was split into two partitions. One in which i mentioned above as an axillary one, which contains only 1GB of memory. So i deleted the partition in computer management, and then extended my main partition to make it into one partition.
So i restarted my laptop, boot up the cd once more, and then it said that it cannot detect any hard drives. Back to square 1. So i booted up my laptop to the desktop, try to run the SATA installer. REbooted my laptop and booted up the xp cd. Once again, it detected a 1GB hard drive, which i deleted earlier. I clicked on it, and i got this message
your computer's startup program cannot gain access to the disk containing the partition or free space you chose. Setup cannot install windows xp on this hard disk.
this lack of access does not necessarily indicate an error condition. For example, disks attached to a SCSI adapter that wasn't installed by your computer manufacturer or to a secondary hard disk controller, are typically not visible to the startup program unless special software is used. Contact your computer or hard drisk controller manufacturer for more information.
On x86-based computers,this message may indicate a problem with the CMOS drive type settings. See your disk controller documentation for more information.
