Hi, I was trying to burn a DVD+R DL but until now I always failed.
Hear is my full log, I hope someone could help me.
Basically what Nero says me before stops itself is something like "illegal disk". Well I really don't know...

Thanks a lot,
Stefano.

More than likely it's your drive. It's old, at least 3 yrs, and only burns DLs @ 2.4x according to videohelp.com. The media you are using burns best at about 6x. It's also very possible your drive doesn't support this media, which will result in poor burns.

Try to find some 2.4x Verbatim DLs. They are more expensive than the Riteks but might work in your drive.

You drive is also not well liked, read this thread for some info.

Hi hobbit112,
thanks for your reply.
I do agree with you about my burner...I really believe that it's time to buy a new disant one!
Could you suggest me a couple of new brand burners with which I'll never had any more such types of problems?

Regards,
Stefano.

Welcome to AD Stefano!

For drives, my favorite at the moment is my NEC/Optiarc 7200S, I also have a Samsung 203b which I also like but not as much as the NEC. These are SATA drives but there is also an IDE version. I also like the Lite-Ons and have heard that the Pioneers ans Asus's are also very good. Plextors were also very good but I think I heard that they are starting to rebadge drvies, but I may be confused.

You can check out this thread, it's supposed to discuss drives in addtion to media.

BTW, I have transitioned from Nero to a free program called ImgBurn for burning DL media. You have better control over the burning speed for DLs (Nero used to have a problem with that) and can easily book-type if your drive supports the procedure. ImgBurn also will keep a log of your burning speeds for each media descriptor you use, i.e., you no longer have to remember that Ritek S04's burn best @ 6x, Verbatim MKM 001's burn best @ 4x, etc (these are examples, your speeds may vary).

In case I would be use the one with a SATA interface, winch card do you recommend?

You will need to get a SATA card with a Silicon Image controller chip. The one I have has the Sil3114 chip and works well. It's been my experience that if you choose a SATA card without a SI chip, you could have problems updating the firmware of your drive connected to it. I'm speaking from experience here, the first SATA card I got did not have the SI controller chip and when I went to update my drive, a Lite-On at the time, thank God, the update didn't 'take' and my drive was bricked. Luckily, when I got a SATA card with the SI chip I was able to re-flash the drive and get it back working.

I've got a Rosewill RC209 adaptor. If I was looking for another adaptor card I'd get a Rosewill RC209-EX. This card has 2 external eSATA connectors in addtion to the internal SATA connectors so you can connect external SATA devices to it.

Thanks hobbit112,
I had a look to the NEC/Optiarc series and they seems to be a very good choice.
What about the Sony drives? Are they good as well as the NEC/Optiarc?
Should the combination of a Rosewill RC209-EX card plus a BWU-300S drive give to me a safety burn solution?

Stefano.

P.S.
I introduced the Sony BWU-300S because I was looking for blue ray burner too.

I know little about the blu-ray burners other than they are pricey. I also know that if you are going to burn blu-ray material for replay in stand-alones, it's iffy. Most of the guides here are for playback in PS3s. For playback in other machines, it's almost model by model and firmware by firmware. For instance, I have a blu-ray player, a Sharp BD20U, and it will not play BDMV recordings (what most, if not all, of the guides here create), but it supposedly will play BDAV, BD5 & BD9s (BD5 & BD9s are blu-ray structure burned to regular dvds, but different structure than BDMV). It also will not play AVCHD discs as Sharp says that AVCHD is Sony copywrite and there are licensing issues. I have been unable to burn a disc with blu-ray format(on standard dvd) that will play in my standalone.

Right, I can see your point and I think that I do agree with you.
Just one more thing, where can I buy both card and drive?
Because I'm Italian and I'm living in Italy.

Thanks again,
Stefano.

Where do you get your computer supplies? Maybe find a computer shop and ask?
