Hey all. I've been reading these forums a lot for info lately, and I finally have a reason to post myself. I just recently got Swap Magic 3.6 with a flip top. I made a backup today of Narutimate Hero Accel 2, and I managed to get it working. However, after that, my PS2 won't start up the Swap Magic disc anymore, whether is the DvD or the CD version. All of my other games seem to be working fine, it's just the two Swap Magic discs. Instead of loading the game, it goes the PS2 browser and shows the disc as if it were working. If I try to click to the run the disc, I don't get an error, it just takes me right back to the browser. Can anyone help with this issue? Thanks in advance.
So, after working with the Swap Magic a bit more, I've come to the conclusion that my disc can only work after long periods of down time. That is, if I use the Swap Magic and play a game for a little while, it won't work again if I put it in after playing the first game. If I wait a couple of hours, it'll work. Is this a common problem, or is it something wrong with the disc? It really is quite inconvenient. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.
If I read your posts right it's crazy how similar our situations are/were.
I too have a slim PS2. I also got a swap magic because I wanted to play Narutimate Accel 2. I put in swap magic and it would work the first time but afterwards it wouldn't work anymore for a long time until I left the system off for a long time. Other games would still play fine.
I was like what's going on? This is so strange! I took the swap magic back to were I got it from (Pandora's Cube, here in Maryland) and told them what was going on. It did the same thing. But when the guy put in Persona 3 it wouldn't read that either.
Turns out that it was the laser. The laser worked but after it heated up it wasn't working at 100% which is why when turning it on for the first time in a while it would read but not afterwards. It would go to the browser, show that there's a disc in there, I would press X and then it would reset and show PlayStation 2 and do it over and over again.
I was surprised because I haven't had the slim PS2 for that long. It's a SCPH-77001.
Anyway you might want to check out the laser. It may not be what you want to hear but there's a good chance you have the same situation that I did.
Unfortunately, it sounds like you're right. I was afraid that it was the laser, but since it was running all of my other games fine, I was hoping it wasn't the case. Is there anything you did to get it to work, or do I just need to get the laser repaired or something? In any case, thanks for the reply. It takes a load off just to know what the problem was.
There wasn't anything I could do to get it to work before getting the laser replaced. All of my other games (CD and DVD) were working too. Even after swap magic stopped working my other games would still work fine. It's part of what made it so strange.
I really had to stay the course when speaking to the guy at the store because on the surface it looks fine. "Hey swap magic is loading up!" I had to let him know, hey it might look fine now but I guarantee you as soon as I go home the same problem is going to happen. Don't try to get rid of me but instead let's take a moment so that we can both see the nature of this problem.
The first time that I saw an original not work was when the guy at the store put in Persona 3. This is when I first started to really believe that it was in fact the laser and not the swap magic discs.
Still I would definitely try out the swap magic on a different PS2 if you can. Although are situations seem very similar and they probably are the same, you don't want to switch the laser and it turns out that it wasn't the problem.
All the best though. I hope you get it working without having to spend too much money.
Well I'm not completely entirely sure about this, but to me it seems like it is causing the laser to work much harder to read burnt discs then it was intended too, I dunno for sure but I had a problem with my old xbox reading discs after I modded it, I had to adjust the laser lens so that it would still read the disc properly but not work so much harder. But ya I can't garentee that that's the problem it was just my openion. Cause it happends to mee too on my Slimline and I gotta let it cool down for an hour or two, so I ajusted my laser and it works fine now just cant leave the sony on ALL day haha. But I'm not recomending you that you should adjust your lens unless you are experienced with it. I dunno if this helped or not but if it did then your welcome and if not then I apologise.
since i have never had this problem and i have the same stuff as you do i would say the lens or discs are dirty or damaged and/or ps2 laser assembly is overheating/damaged
make sure it is well ventilated eg not sitting on carpet etc. and turn your ps2 off and let it rest sometimes. you may want to also blow the dust out of it with a air compressor or some canned air
my slimline is still working perfect after 6+ years and it gets a ton of use. i am pretty stoked it last so long. i just make sure it can ventilate and to clean teh lens when it loads sluggish
if none of the above works, sounds like you may want to return that ps2 or get a new one cuz your laser assembly maybe too damaged by now or maybe u just got a crappy ps2. sucks bro
