OMG HELP! Typical Vista File: \Boot\BCD

I have had this compaq laptop for almost a year now and tonight I tried to restart it when it was glitching with the media player, which it does often, and when it tried to boot up it told me it was missing File: \Boot\BCD. Thats great! Now it won't boot, I've found the solution to the problem on microsofts website but all 3 methods require a vista installation cd, which I don't have. I have a set of recovery disc which aren't the same thing. Does anyone know what I can do? I've put much love into my laptop and will die a little inside if I have to delete all my files to get the damn thing working again. Especially when I try to remember where I got my codec packs-_- HELP ME!!!!!
