I have Nero 6 OEM got with a dvd burner years ago. Has worked fine until I did a clean install a few days ago. When I reinstalled Nero 6 there is no DVD video burning or DMA control functions listed on the menu (some other things are missing but didn't use so don't care). Contacted Nero they basically said "tough" OEM versions don't have full functions and some are time limited. I used the video burning for over 2 years including through several clean installs the last one about 13 months ago. I have workarounds and other burning software, it just puzzles me why it quit working now after having done fine for so long. All this has occured on the same computer and with the same OS and dvd burner (Compaq Preasario SR 1800NX, XP sp2, LG dual layer dvd burner). It puzzled me so much, I did a clean reinstall 2 more times using 2 different hard drives and on none of them can I get the old functions back (I even reset computer clock back to 2006, still nothing when I reinstalled Nero). Would love if someone could tell me how I could get it back to old, but would even be satisfied if someone could tell me what happened? How could it drop these functions after a clean install?

Look around the net, either google or use froogle and see if you can find Nero 7 cheap, like under $5.00 in some cases, Or try downloading Nero 6.0 from www.filehippo.com and see if your Nero serial number works from your OEM version, your number should begin with the number 1A20, see if you can find it when you try to reinstall your Nero 6 version. Personally I recommend 7 if you can locate it cheap enough..
Let me know if this helps any.

I like your idea about downloading Nero 6 and trying my serial number. I WILL let you know if that works though won't I have to wait for the trial period to expire before I know if I have full functionality? The Nero 7 option I will consider. I am awfully cheap (2 cancers have put me on disability so money is real tight - as one girl describes me, I am so cheap she is surprised my skin doesn't choke me, but a fin sounds doable). Of course I do have workarounds, I have Sonic Record Now and can always use DvdShrink to convert anything to an .iso and then burn with DvdDecrypt. Nero is more convenient, but not having it is just a nuisance. Of course I am still intellectually trying to figure out how they killed those functions. After a clean install there should not be anything or anywhere they could place a hook to deactivate functions because the time is up. As I said, I even back dated the computer's clock before installing it one time and that didn't help. Thanks for the ideas, I'll try them and let you know how they fared.

If it takes the serial number, you are fine, Trial period serial numbers start with different numbers.
For Nero 7 the regular numbers begin with 1C82, but the trial serials begin with 1C83, so the program knows if the serial is a trial or the permanent variety. My advice is to get rid of the Sonic Record now once Nero is installed, DVDShrink is a good program which isn't updated anymore, due to the fact that the guy who wrote the program now works for Nero and has turned Shrink into Nero Recode. Same program, different name. However, both have trouble handling the newer encryptions out there, as a matter of fact, Recode can't handle any encryption by itself.

Good luck with the reinstall, have you used the Nero Clean install program? This removes all traces of Nero from your system and is a great cure all for those times when remnants are left over in your system which cause problems similar to what you are describing. Here is a link to it, read and give it a try.

Looked around Froogle for the $5 Nero 7 and suspicious of what was there. It did not look legit to me. Most of them had it priced for $60 give or take. I also tried the Nero Clean program and that didn't help either. Thanks for the suggestions. I guess I will keep diddling around and see what else I can come up with.
