I just bought a ps2 second hand and the dual shock controller is not working properly with the problem being that some of the buttons don't respond but other buttons do work. Have tried other controllers on the same port and they work fine so it is definitley a problem with the controller.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to fix it?

Its just probably too dirty and needs some cleaning. You might want to take it apart and clean all the dirt and grime with rubbing alcohol.
At the worst the rubber springs are ripped because of use. They can be replaced easily. You can either buy it at local gamestores really cheaply or swap it for good ones from old ps1 controllers. If you cant do either, just turn it so the ripped parts falls in the buttons that are less used like the UP button or triangle.

Hi, thanks for the reply. When you say cleaning do you mean cleaning the blue piece of thin plastic that carries the signals when the buttons are pressed?

Any other suggestions?

In what condition the thin blue plastic is in? Specifically, the part where the non-functioning buttons connect. I used to have a controller where the R1 part was so worn out that I had to use a tin foil(from a cig pack) to make it register. If you would like to try, just put a tin foil, about 4 layers thick or 1 cm thick(maybe), under the rubber springs on those buttons that dont work. It not really that effective in my experience but i hopes it works for you.
