DVD recorder to recorder backup

Could anybody tell me if there is a possibility to backup a DVD recorder to another medium than dvd discs? I am looking for a new DVD recorder but there are a lot of saved items of more than 5/6 hours on my old recorder and to put those on a dvd disc is not efficient. I want those back later on my new dvd recorder. I am looking for a recorder to recorder method.

I'm no expert but if you want to back up before getting your new recorder, possibly with some extra hardware you could transfer the files to a hdd on your computer. I think you would need a tv tuner and it would be done in real time. Or, if you just wanted to wait until you got your new dvr you could try plugging the vid out from the old one into the Ant/cable in (vid in) of the new one, Press play on the old one and record on the new one. once again it's a real time backup and will take 5-6 hours to complete. I have never done it. As an after thought you may be able to install the hdd from your old dvr into a housing and, if your new dvr supports it, (This is a purely random thought) plug it into the new dvr to access it. I don't know. If it were me, @30 to 60 cents a disc I would burn them. Easier, quicker and cheaper.
