My wife accidentally a big box of CD's away. I'm trying to rebuild my music collection via MP3s. Since I already purchased the music I was using Yahoo Music Subscription service to download the tracks and then using fairuse4wm to remove the copy protection and convert them to MP3s so I could play them anywhere I wanted.

Yahoo is discontinuing their service and transitioning everyone to Rhapsody. I downloaded all the Rhapsody software and I believe it forced me to upgrade WMP and/or at least the IBX so fairuse4wm is impossible to use with Rhapsody. I've downgraded my WMP and IBX before when I accidentally accepted an update so I can do that again.

Is there another subscription service like Rhapsaody with a good selection of high-quality files that won't force me to upgrade WMP and/or the IBX? Or has someone figured out a way to get fairuse4wm to work with Rhapsody's current version? I can't find a way to go back to their old version that doesn't force an upgrade.

Once you remove the DRMs you can convert the format to what ever you want. The format of the music should not be a factor in your choice of a subscription.

I ALL-WAYS back up my CDs before I even listen to them. I don't play my CDs. My wife likes to play the originals. I back up hers as well. I still get compliants that I am using her CDs even though she doesn't complain when her CD gets ruined and I burn her a copy. Even if my wife did accidently throw out my CDs I would still have the MP3s.

If you sign up for Winamp you can get a free trial for eMusic or something like that. I would check them out. They are cheaper and have higher quality but only sell independents. Some of the labeled artists have gone indi and are sold there. They are the little engine that could.
