Ive been having this problem for almost a year now and simply cannot figure out WHAT it is! i cannot record anymore. basically i am recording on my computer. recording music that i make. but no matter what program i use i get the same problem. no matter how many times i have formatted my computer this problem persists.
Here is the problem as best as i can describe it. I open Sonar (the program i usually use) and record the first track. this works fine usually, unless i use digital effects, and it goes out of whack and i get an ever-lasting echo of noise that would blow my speakers if i left it any longer then i do. When it comes to recording the second track however, it records over the first track, or any other sound being played on my computer. this also happens on the first track if i have music playing.
i have tried updating all my drivers, using different model drivers, muting the outputs, disabling my surround sound, formatting my computer, using different programs, and even unplugging all wires from my sound card, and webcam (to prevent any possible sounds coming from outside of the computer). so to me it seams the sound is being re-routed back into the computer somehow and i cannot figure out what to do. perhaps one of the things ive already tried, was done wrong.
I can't really help you other that be a 'second head'. I don't use Sonar. I suspect the problem is a setting. It thinks you want to overwrite. I don't think is a hardware problem.
I would try borrowing someone old sound card for a week your feed back could be a hardware thing.
