Help with formatting vista and installing xp

I am trying to install XP on my friends laptop. It loads Vista no problem. When I go to format it via the xp disc, I get this error:

How do I get around this so I can install XP and remove Vista?

that system your trying to load XP on has a SATA HDD...meaning that you need to go to the laptops website and download the MSD (mass storage device) driver and load it on a floppy disk...or slipstream it into an install disc via Nlite...

No. XP specifically looks for a floppy drive. You can use a USB floppy drive if you have one. This doesn't work with all computers, but since your computer came with Vista it's new enough that you shouldn't have a problem.
