Hi, some how, someone, in my family has set a ON-Power password for the laptop. Is there any way of getting rid of it. Any back door passwords or programs that could generate it? I really need this. Please help, otherwise laptop will be useless. Thank you

Power On
The Power On password is set in the System BIOS options. It prevents unwanted users from accessing the computer. By default, HP does not set the Power On password. If you set the Power On password in the System BIOS options you will be prompted for it immediately after you power on the Notebook PC.
If this password is forgotten, a repair at an HP certified repair center is required to reset the computer. Please contact HP to schedule a repair. This service is not covered by the warranty.

Ask the family member the password. It doesn't happen by accident. Since one has to go into the BIOS to do it, it was deliberate.

are you willing & capable of taking it apart carefully as there might be a way of resolving your problem. all laptops have 2 batteries, 1 big 1 to power the laptop & the 2nd 1 to power the cmos chip. that cmos battery is about 2 inches long but is narrow & thin & is rechargeable. it can be disconnected from motherboard which should clear the cmos settings to default. you will not loose any info as that is on your hard drive?
