I have reviewed some 10 software packages including NERO, CDClone, Alcohol120, MTU,Audiograbber, etc. They all have poor user interfaces and seem to hide program features-enough complaining-

What are the causes that render some optical storage devices unable to READ some formats. MTU will tell you that only a select few devices can read CDG.
Audiograbber says you must read with a "deinterleave" capability.

The software purveyors are careful to obscure the difference between the hardware, and their particular methodology in extracting the data.

Through all the discussions it is clear that matching the media to the hardware doing the reading can be critical, leaving the unexperienced user in a terrible dicotomy-trying to decide if he's using the software improperly, or has a media mismatch. This is illustrated by a recent review of the Liteon 811s where it performed badly on media that the 411 did a great job with.

From my brief review it appears that any hardware that can properly read, and subsequently burn RAW/DAO should handle CDG. Comments? When will this apparent H/W-S/W-Media snafu begin to settle out??
