I bought this TV about a month ago, and I am experiencing a few issues. I might not be able to fix this stuff, but I want to at least know what's going on.
First, I have been unable to get black levels to an accurate level without causing all of the picture detail to completely disappear. I think I am adjusting to eternal gray, but sometimes it does really bug me. I wish there was more than Brightness/Contrast controls here so I could calibrate it more. Something like gamma would be nice, I think. Any suggestions of what I can do to get blacker blacks without turning any dark scene/object into an abyss?
Also, I am having issues with the sharpness. I noticed a lot of insane flashing on striped shirts, fences, and other things with a lot of small lines on them. Especially when there was movement. This is happening both on 1080i (cable box) and 1080p (BD discs via PS3) I turned down the sharpness to 4/10 and it dissipated, but not all the way. Only turning down the sharpness of course made everything soft. So now it's an epic battle of blurriness versus this terribly distracting flashing. If I am doing something wrong here, or if there is a way to fix it, I would love to hear it.
Additionally, people's skins and other surfaces seem to lack detail. The same thing happened on my old HDTV (Sony 34" Direct-View, forget the model number). It's kind of frustrating, especially since normal DVDs look nice and even, whereas HD cable and BD discs feature crisp background scenery, while a person's face is all soft and inhumanly smooth.
Lastly, there seems to be time lag...but only some of the time. Audio will sometimes be slightly out of sync, obvious by people's lips not matching the dialogue as well as it should. It's not be much, but it does distract me from time to time.
I don't know what is going on with this TV. I looked up reviews and it seems to be a decent TV based off of what I have read. Nobody mentioned any of the problems I am having.
