I am using a DVI to HDMI cable on a 27" HDTV and if there is no activity on my PC after lets say 30 minutes or so the monitor loses signal and I can't revive it unless I hard restart the machine. In the past I have used the same monitor via VGA for over a year with out this problem. I don't have any screen savers, sleep modes or anything that I can think of that would cause this. My vid card is a 8800 GTS 640mb and I am using a resolution of 1280x720 if that helps. Any thoughts that might cause this?

Also on an unrelated note, red text (not logos) of any kind on web pages in particular seem rather blurry and almost impossible to read. I have thoroughly went through all setting in video for my card and tv. Any thoughts on this as well?

Check the temperature of the graphics card to see if it's overheating.

Thanks for the reply. I never thought over over heating because I have had the same TV/monitor in use for over a year with the same video card, but just a different video source, VGA. My idle temps are 62 C. I just loaded a game and am watching a dvd and typing this and my temps went up 4-5 degrees. I am sure they'll go up more after time but still... In the past I have left this machine on for several days without turning it off and never had a problem until I switched to HDMI.

The reason I am using HDMI to begin with is because some games won't recognize my custom resolution I had with VGA of 1366x768?? Can't remember the exact if that's off. Games would knock it down to 1024x768 and some even to 800x600 so I decided to use HDMI and everything runs and looks decent at 1280x720.

I'm sure you can use 1280x720 with VGA somehow, but DVI-HDMI will give you a better picture quality. Temperatures look fine. My only suggestion is to go into Control Panel -> power options, and under 'turn off monitor' select 'never'. But why that should only affect DVI and not VGA is beyond me.

yup /scratches head. I was able to get those resolutions with VGA I just wanted a little more ;) If I leave the PC sit idle for like 30-45 minutes the monitor will just go black and then nothing.

Any ideas about the funny red text?

wow, I guess the setting for turning off the monitor somehow got rest because of the new input?? It was set to turn off after 30 minutes. I never thought to check it because it was always set o never before. I guess sometimes some of the simplest solutions to the more "difficult" problems are overlooked. Thanks :)

No problem.
re the red text, not sure on that, could potentially be a bad cable.
