Alright, I have been having this problem lately where occasionally I would leave my computer to go do something, I would get back and the screen would either be black (with my monitor in standby mode), or there would be a message saying something like "Display drivers stopped working and recovered..." I had the problem for awhile but thought I fixed it when I rolled my drivers back. Unfortunately, I was playing a game and it spontaneously blacked out again. I had to button of death the computer then I went to sleep. Woke up today and tried to turn it on and it would act like it would boot windows but then just restart. I noticed when it would do this blackout thing it seemed the hard drive shuts off as well. I also had graphics problems while trying to load my Ubuntu partition. The screen was flickering. I don't know if that was related at all, it may have been a fluke.

Damn maybe thats the deal. Now I am having a huge problem! The computer will not boot an os at all unless I am in Vista safe mode... huge bummer... It seems as though the problem is the video drivers, because when I uninstall the drivers vista will boot normally. Could it be the video card or hopefully just the drivers? Serious help needed plz!!! I have not been able to use the integrated video on my computer cus I do not have access to the right kind of video cable. Would removing Ubuntu be the right idea??

True, well I do a lot of C++ programming. I suppose I'll just have to find an alternative or just use Live ubuntu.

Varnull is the Linux guru around here.
I use Acronis True Image to restore my entire computer to a prior state especially when reversing major changes.
Varnull will be infinitely more helpful than me on this one. All I'm saying is what worked for me in my situation.

I seemed to have discovered part of the problem. I thought of this as soon (but later than desired) as the screen began to artifact. DLed rivo tuner, jacked fan speed on gpu. all is well... so far.
