Hey guys,
I have a my book 1tb network hard drive which worked fine when it was plugged into the router (apart from being a Lil slow)
I now need all the ports on the router for various things.
So i thought I'd just use it as an external to my PC, i plugged it into the spare Ethernet socket on the motherboard, enabled the connection.
Trouble is my computer cant find the damn thing, is there anything i can check.. i don't even know if what I'm trying to achieve is possible?
Any pointers greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Dan

There needs to be a proper network connection between the two devices. Your best bet is to use the USB connection on it, it'll be much faster than ethernet was before.

Thanks,
It only has the ability (as far as i know) to add storage to it by connecting another USB based external actually into it. i know know if you could reverse the usb in on the HD to make it a usb out?!
Is not connecting it directly to the computer not possible then?
Isn't that just making a LAN connection theoretically...?
cheers

I have never seen a Mybook operate that way, I've only seen them be used over USB the normal way.

so... how did it get it's network IP previously? was it getting DHCP from the router? If that's the case you will need to have a serious play with your network (or the device) to either use the box on a static ip (which will be a different network) or to change your main network to something not the stoopid windows default dhcp of 192.168.0.xxx and use the automatic inbuilt windows DHCP server on the secondary network hardware.

Yeh must of been DHCP from the router.
Ive sorted it now anyway...
I've just stripped it all down and used it as a regular internal SATA drive.
Saves messing around and will prolly work faster now neway hehehe.
Thanks for your responses.
