well at the risk of being obvious here are a few things to check ! Valueline disk only come packaged in Tapewrap/Shrinkwrap ? as far as I Know of ! where Premium Taiyo Yudens Mainly Come Packaged in Cakeboxes ( Like the DVD blanks you buy at Your local store ) However I have seen Premium taiyo Yudens Offered before in The Tape-wrap/shrinkwrap as well So I suppose That is not an absolute Rule ( Premium Taiyo yudens in Cakeboxes ) Also The Valuelines Disc are less expensive than the premiums ! Buying Media( DVD+R,DVD-R 's ) in Bulk/Online The DVD+R's are nearly always more expensive Than The DVD-R's Regardless Of brand - Buying Branded Dvd Media at your local store DVD+R or DVD-R are the same price ! That's just how it is !!!! Also Wherever you buy your taiyo yudens usually has whether their Premium or Valueline in the advertisement !!! somewhere So not knowing who you bought from I can't say much more than that ? While I have heard of online-retailers filling orders on taiyo yudens with Higher speed Media ( 8X- when you ordered 4or 16x when you ordered 8X ) This was usually do to them selling out or running low on what you have ordered ) They will usually say so in their ad ( you may get - any of the following media codes when ordering this item ...) Though I have never heard of anyone getting premium media when ordering valuelines !!!! I/m not saying it could'nt happen but I've never never seen it yet !!!and The obvious Which did you order? If you post a link ( website ) where you bought your disc I'll Read it and seee if I can find out what they are ? for you ? That's as much as i can do good luck Hope this Helps ????????

no you didn't find a goldmine. Taiyo Yudens aren't footballed on price , remember you have to pay shipping also. buying from supermediastore.com usually is the best choice being the price includes shipping. and the DVD plus R format is always prices higher than the DVD dash R format online

Ok. I overlooked supermediastore carrying the TY DVD+R. Thanks. The Verbatims are the same price. I've had good luck with them. But from what I gather from most here, they prefer the TYs. What do you think ? Also, any suggestions for burning with DVDShrink, to make them look better on a 42" HD screen ? Thanks again.

Culchie- While most afterdawn.com members consider Taiyo Yuden The Best Media of all Verabtims are just as Good ! Again comparing apples to apples - Same speed quality grqde ect... I'll Make it easy If I were looking for the Best Branded Media in either Format DVD-r or DVD+R I would likely pick Verbatims if I had to Pick from brands available at Local retailers !and stick with that . Basically My media Short list is as follows Taiyo Yudens - Either from online retailers or marketed under another companies brand( Sony -Made In Japan , Fuji Made in Japan , ect... ,Verbatims -Made in Taiwan, Maxell's _Made in Japan ( made By Maxell/hitachi ) not a third party comapny)Sony's made in Japan or Taiwan -{ Some sony's are made in Malaysia /indonesia )- also not all Sony media made in japan are made by Taiyo yuden for Sony But they're still good disc )After That it's The Ritek/Ricoh Group - RItek under it's own brand name , also Some maxell Media is made by Ritek as well ! Officedepot's own branded media was /is made by either Ritek or Ricohjpn which is really Just Ritek because They're making media for Ricohjpn , I've burned through a 100ct. spindle of Tdk 4X DVD+R and was pleased with the result and the disc was actually made by Ricohjpn /Ritek , I've burned countless Riteks either marketed as OFFICEDEPOT brand or Maxells and they seem to be Very Decent Disc though mot in The Taiyo yuden or Verbatim class ! You can often find deals on Riteks in their Officedepot Disguise @ You guessed it Officedepot !!! You win a stufed bear !!! especially right now !!! And no I don't work at or for officedepot or own stock in it either ! I'm just Cheap and they have the Only store branded media I've found worth using!!! and always had sales @ reasonable prices on there brand ( Cheaper than the big name stuff ) and If they are really Phasing out Their Brand I will miss buying it ! Unless they put Verbatims or Sony's onsale for similar price points I hope anyaways ? Good luck and sorry to go overboard on the explanation 3 cups of coffee can do that to a person I suppose Ciao Buddy !!!!

buying online i would definitely buy the Taiyo Yudens over the Verbatims, dvd shrink is fine unless you have to compress the file alot say more than 75 to 80% then you should use DVD Rebuilder. here are all you're option/info/guides here
