It is getting time for christmas and I asked for a pair of speakers for my computer, but I recently figured out that my onboard sound will not due, so I need a sound card. I am looking for one that is about or under $100. I am confused on all of the technologies that the companies are bragging about (ie. EAX).

I am using this card for gaming and music, and I was looking at this sound card, but I am not sure. It is also important to know that I am running Windows Vista x64.

Thanks!

if your no audiophile and only need a better-than-standard sound card, then the Creative Sound Blaster Audigy should be efficient.

if you need something that will really sound good, this are less than 100USD and sound phenomenal.

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

I was looking at the suggested cards, GREAT help, and I notice that the striker is more reliable but it lacks the EAX that the Creative sound card has. Will I be missing out if I do not get the EAX?

im not quiet sure, but from researching a bit, it seems it differs from game to game. most games implement EAX very well, while others not so much. i suggest getting the creative sound cards, but if your not much of an audio-freak, then i dont think it will matter much.

i found this from an audio forum. it seems to sum up EAX nicely to me.

EAX on the other hand defines audio capabilities and support for effects, such as room reverberation (shooting in a tunnel compared to in the forest), sound reflections and occlusions, support for 128 simultaneous voices, vertical positioning support of sound, etc. Beyond these capabilities is also how well these features are implemented on the card - e.g. my onboard supports EAX, and you hear it "change" the sound but it has no realism at all. The X-Fi on the other hand, ohhhhh it makes ya tingle in some games!!!!:)

EAX isn't for everyone though - reflections and reverberations make it harder to pinpoint where the enemy is, and sometimes in multiplayer games it's better to know where the enemy is than to admire the sound quality (sorta like turning graphics quality to minimum in multiplayer so the enemy stands out more).
