well my friend gave me a laptop he had found that works but it doesn't have a hard drive. I went on newegg and got this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...N82E16822148368

finding out when i got that it was not intended for laptop/notebook use. i was wondering if i could get an enclosure for it and run windows xp micro/mini or maybe even just windows 98. im not sure if its possible running on OS off of an enclosure or something like this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812816014

*edit* im only using it for in my car for music so thats why i decided to go with xp micro/mini or 98

its a Dell Latitude CPx, yea i know piece of crap but i got it for free and want it just for music in my car. i am completely new to laptops and I didnt realize that each laptops have their own "bays" or watever u call them. well the laptop doesnt have that either so should I buy a bay for it or could I just go with the usb converter?

*edit* it says it right on the hard drive on the seagate company sticker in capital bold letters "NOT SUITABLE FOR LAPTOP COMPUTER USE"

The drive doesn't have shock protection.. Just handle the laptop with a little care when it is fitted.. in particular don't bang it about when it is running.

Nice quality little machines these.. They really struggle with XP which is odd because they should run it reasonably going off the specs alone. Some lesser dells will handle xp, and others wont.. I don't know ..maybe the L2 cache is small?
Puppylinux (and most of the smaller linux distros.. NOT UBUNTU.. it's too heavy) runs beautifully on them.. everything is (usually) supported out of the box, and would be perfect for your intended use.
