Are HDTV purchased in the North compatable in the South. The last time I bought one in the north in did not work here. any help would be appreciated.

North and South Pole?

Makes no difference what part of the country your are in, as far as whether or not the TV will work. Depends on what kind of signal you have going to it, whether or not you will get any reception.
