Buffer Staying At Zero

I haven't burned a DVD in awhile, and I recently went to do so. However, the buffer remained at zero. I decided to go update my drivers, but it didn't help. I don't have a lot of experience trouble shooting dvd burners, as I have never encountered a problem. I was using Nero and my OS is XP. Any help is greatly appreciated.
