Medion PC and HDTV problems

Just recently bought a medion PC and connected it as a media centre to a 50" sony 1080p TV. When playing any HD material from the pc there is a persistant stutter on screen.

The pc has the following spec:
2.4 GHz Quad Core Processor (Intel Q6600)
3 GB RAM
Nvidia 9500 GS 512 MB Graphics Card
LG HD DVD/ BluRay player

Weve had a replacement TV and HDMI cables.

Is this graphics card and processor capable of 1080p on a 40 inch display?

running out of ideas! Any help is welcomed!
