I just purchased a hd tv; I have a Sony dav-s300 surround sound system a few years old which has no hdmi jack; it does have a s video jack and an optical jack in the video 2 section.

how do I hook up the system so that I can get surround sound from my tv?

the technician who installed it has the cable for the tv serivice going into the tv.

I get surround sound when I play dvd, but not from tv programs that broadcast in sourround sound.

the dvd player uses input 1 and the tv input 3

there is no cable box.
