I didn't see any place for this,so here I am. I just replaced a DC power jack on my HP Pavilion zv5000 Notebook. Got it all put back together and it still has no power. What do I do next? It has power of some sort because the light comes on,but not the charging light on the front.I have never work with a laptop before so I am stuck as to what to do next. I can't really afford to take it anywhere. Thats why I replaced it myself.Any idea would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Jeannie

Thanks and have a good one. :)Thunder

When you say the light comes on, are you talking about the light on the laptop or the light on the AC adapter?

No , I'm talking about the power light at the back left corner on the machine. the fan comes on , I can hear it.The thing doesn't boot however. Windows does not load,it's like the hard drive doesn't engage. The charging light at the front doesn't come on either. It's like nothing on it is working except the fan and the power light.Could I have simply put it back together wrong? I have some screws left over. :( That couldn't have anything to do with it. Could it?

Thanks and have a good one. :)Thunder

leftover parts are not good. open it up & re-check connections to ribbon cables & find were those screws belong to.

Hey Guys, I had to take a few days off for Christmas decorating. lol Anyway, the good news is that I found the Daughter card was not seated well and I took it off and re set it. that made the power jack I replaced work. :) The bad news is that I now have 8 leftover screws instead of just 5. :( And the monitor has nothing. It will not boot at all. The jack charges, "lightening bolt is blue' the power button is on "Blue light is on". Nothing starts. No sound, no loading stuff. Just the blank display. :( I know take it apart again. But, what can it be this time?

Thanks and have a good one. :)Thunder

Could be all sorts of things, bad power connection to CPU or motherboard, damaged CPU, motherboard or RAM.

Ok, rechecked all the connections last night.Everything's plugged in. I did notice that I had the factory memory and the new 1 G we bought last year were in different spots so I made them be the way they were before. and I found out were some more screws went. Now I have 4 screws and no where to put them.Is it true that the screws "need" to be in certain spots for "grounding"? My Husband the owner of the laptop says that screws act as grounding for the computer. Is that true? I've about give up. I think that it's the hard drive myself. why it isn't working I don't know, but I don't think it is. It was going to cost $125-$200 to take it to the shop to fix the Jack. How much you think it will cost to take it and say "I don't know whats wrong with it"? lol thanks for all the help guys, But I'm just lost and really don't know what eles to do. Jeannie

Thanks and have a good one. :)Thunder
