I recently bought a Pinnacle DVC100 to capture some of my old vhs to dvd. I encountered a problem when I tried using the Pinnacle software that came with the device, I would get the stop-n-go effect throughout the output. So I decided to try NeroVision instead, and downloaded the trial version. The video portion of what I recorded came out beautifully - no stop-go, no dropped frames. Only problem is it will not record sound, nor will the user interface allow me to click on the audio options, they are grayed out. There is one checkbox that says allow for audio sync in the 'More' menu but it didn't do a thing when i checked it.
Anyone have a similar problem or know how I can get sound?
Sound is not an issue on the Pinnacle software.
Another issue was when Nero captures the movie in mpeg-2 (other than .avi its the only option youre given) i can't then compress that mpeg-2 with DVDShrink. How do i work around that?
DVD shrink will 'shrink' authored DVD files (.VOB files) - not .mpg files.
Convert the MPEG2 files to DVD format using DVD Flick.
If the source files are true MPEG2 format (NTSC 720x480 or PAL 720x576) and 'Project Settings' > 'Video' > 'Advanced' > 'Copy mpeg2 streams' is checked, it will author the dvd without encoding the video - which is much faster.
Nero seems to recode everything - even when not required..

I'm excited to say I managed to find a way to work around this problem. For anyone else out there having this problem with NeroVision and I know there are, try this and you don't need to capture directly with Nero Vision. It takes awhile but the results were great, considering i dont have a top of the line video card or processor - no dropped frames or stop/go annoyances.
First, capture the video using your card/device using whichever software you were originally using, ie. the Pinnacle studio is what i used because it came bundled with my DVC 100. Then you will have a VIDEO_TS folder with VOB, BUP and IFO files in it created by Pinnacle studio.
Next, use the Re-Authoring feature in DVDShrink to scan and encode the files into one ISO image. Don't use the 'Open Files' feature like you would when you rip a DVD because you'll get an error.
Next, take that ISO and import it into Nero Vision with Nero 9, add whatever menu template you want and proceed to burn it in Nero Vision. Before it burns it will transcode it which is what you want to iron out any stop/go from the original capture.
The whole process for one video for me took - the length of the video + about 20 minutes to send it thru DVDShrink + another hour to transcode it in Nero + about 5 minutes for the actual burn, but if you are only capturing a few videos like me, it doesn't matter. The only part of that process where you shouldn't touch your computer at all is during the initial capture and the final 5 minutes while it is burning.
