NDSL frezzes without the cart inside

So I have had my NDSL for about a year and a half and everything was working great but recently for some reason it has started to lock up, the same effect as if you where playing and you take the cartridge out. At first I thought it was dirty, so I cleaned the DS slot and the R4, but it still happened. Then I took out the cart and just booted the DS OS, played with the buttons a while it frozze. I have no idea whats wrong, I opened it and everything seems fine, no bad connections, nothing loose. Can anyone please help me out?
