Hoping i have chosen the correct forum.
Ok, so i have been using uTorrent successfully for a long while now and then i installed 1.8.1 and my troubles began mainly with the settings.dat and the resume.dat. In general i would say each time i start uTorrent i have to reload all torrents and put in the settings each time. I tried to resolve by starting over from the beginning and uninstalling and reinstalling 1.8.1 and it is now telling me: The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\uTorrent\settings.dat' is in use by another process and can't be opened and The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\uTorrent\resume.dat' is in use by another process and can't be opened.
Nothing else is running at the moment so can't figure it out.
Any suggestions?

Actually, this is not the correct place for this. If there is a problem with that version the utorrent forums for be best. It will not get fixed here.

Are you sure your settings are set correctly for start all torrents automatically?

I have asked in uTorrent forum but nobody seems to be able to help me there either. My settings are all set correctly but it wouldn't make a difference if they weren't as the settings arr not saving due to the issue with the settings.dat and the resume.dat. I really don't know where else to try as it doesn't seem too common a problem so just wondered if anyone had come across it before now and knew how to fix it?

Try installing somewhere else so it will not try to use the old settings.

Try uninstalling then MAKE SURE the dat file is gone. Before installing it again. Maybe it got flagged read only some how. Maybe you want to check that first. That is one bugger to rebuild.

Hi,
So i thought i would report back. I have found a solution and thought i'd let others know incase anyone ever has a similar problem. I uninstalled my PC Tools ThreatFire and it seems to have done the trick. Simple solution to a pain in the butt problem that i had for weeks!!!!
Thanks for suggestions. Muchley appreciated.
