Hi,

Just wondered if anyone could give me advice on what kind of laptop i would need to get to play 1080p MKV files??

My budget is £350-£400 GBP.

I would like to have a HDMI connection so i can connect direct to my plasma, also would i be able to get the multi channel surround sound 5.1, the only reason i ask is that laptops do not have optical digital connections!

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

for mkv 1080p movies you have to buy laptop with good graphics card with at least 512 Mb memory and ofcourse duo core intel processor

You hardly need a 512 card to play 1080. You'll certainly want a laptop with a dedicated video card instead of an integrated one, and you'll want a decent Core 2 Duo. The Celeron's are budget CPUs. HDMI ~can~ carry sound, you'll want to make sure that even if a laptop has an HDMI out, that it can carry sound. Surround sound would be dependant on the file format/container.

"Graphics Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD Up to 1277 MB Total Available Graphics Memory " is an integrated video card. Dedicated video cards will be described as having something along the lines of 128/256/512MB of dedicated memory. Having a dedicated video card will help offload a lot of decoding work from the CPU. I'm on the fence with the T3200 it probably will do the job well alongside a deidcated video card, but without one might struggle.

I have a T5500 (Which is about 20% slower) with a crappy old GeForce Go 7600 with a gibbled 128Mb of memory. The highest output I've done with it is 1680x1050 and I didn't have any problems with that.

That will never play 1080p HD video. Look for a laptop with an ATI HD3450 or HD3650 Mobility graphics processor.
