mobile intel (R)965
express chipset family
memory 1015mb
windows vista basic

i am new to computers but i found my computer really slow so a read on the internet to do a cpu speed test
one said 1955.1MHz
one said 139MHz
one said 341MHZ
each time i try to install a program it takes forever to install
when i try to play any installed game it either doesnt start or whern it does it doesnt run at a normal speed it goes slowly as thought it going frame by frame
the graphics are perfectly fine on the games though

i read on a forum that if i try to run vista then i need more memory??

I wouldn't even be running vista on a machine with those specs. If you have easy access to a copy of XP install that instead. Computer manufacturers have been loading machines with Vista that they really have no right to since the OS came out. Vista is great, but new technology requires new hardware. I wouldn't run Vista with less than 2GB of ram, and even then I wouldn't put much faith into a celeron either.

Buying another 1GB of ram would be a cheap fix if XP isn't an option, that is unless that laptop came with 2x512MB sticks in which case you'd have to buy 2x1GB sticks.

Vista will be intolerably slow on that laptop as you only have a celeron CPU, that's to be expected. You also bought a laptop with intel integrated graphics, so it won't be able to play games, full stop.

vista is a memory hog for sure you need more ram id say for your programs.. as for games ,, i agree ,, intel ur pretty much screwed , but you might be able to do some advanced settings to ur integrated graphics card and work a little magic .. probably not much though.

You may be able to improve things somewhat by removing running programs you don't need ,this link came from a TechRepublic (a sub of cnet) yesterday

http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window...819&tag=nl.e064

EDIT: That should be disabling running programs

Skip all the dinking around with more RAM and tweaking your settings on a machine that wasn't designed to run Vista. See if you can find a legit XP Installation disc and switch to the "old" OS.

For example:

I'm not anti-Vista but you'll never be happy trying to run it on that laptop you got for free. With a hundred dollar investment you'll have a nice little XP laptop. Bite the bullet.
