Ok, I installed a game called World Of Warcraft, probably familiar with most of you, after I finished patching, etc, my screen froze, purple, white, black colour and such appeared and it kept flashing like really quickly with a black screen. My computer didn't either react to me pressing the shut down button, untill I held it down for 6 seconds.

I don't have any problems since I formated the computer, untill I try to install the driver again, I do have some stripes on the screen as the computer starts ( at the part where's the Windows XP logo ), but when it reaches the desktop it stops.

I've been shutting down my computer by pressing the start button 6 seconds down, keeping my computer on for nights, couple of days, even weeks... Probably the reasons why my graphics driver might be broken?

I tried wiping all the dust off from inside, still the problem remains, but when I don't have the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX installed, there's no problems, except ofcourse I can't play any games and the screen is slow when I scroll down.

So, I believe I must buy a new Graphics Card (or whatever it is) for my computer?

Thank you for the help.

Yes I tried it now and the problem remained, I went to safe mode and deleted the driver, but as I did, I noticed something funny. It was NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS, not GTX.

Could this be the root of all my problems? I think I have GTX, atleast that's what I've always seen when I right clicked my desktop and went to properties and then to settings.

to be sure you have a gtx look at your hardware because the GTS is a shorter card than the GTX. I have the XFX 8800GTS 320MB and my friends GTX is About 1.2" longer than A GTS. just pop the side you case and have a look. Just to be sure.

And you Could also try some of the older drivers aswell.

another thing is to check if you card has the power connector plug in propper.

when you are tell us about what your problems are they sound like it somthing to do with your graphics drivers.

can you post your whole system spec inc the PSU.

Thanks

Graham

I've not heard of a graphics card being wrongly identified, I suspect you had an 8800GTS all along. I would recommend checking the card is properly powered and seated in the motherboard though.
