I have a home theater system running vista 32 outputting at 1080p. I play all kinds of files (avi, mkv, mov, etc) with various formats (h.264, divx, etc) using ffdshow, combined community codec pack, haali media splitter, and core avc (i think this is only used for ripping).

I have almost no problem playing anything back in WMP or media player classic, but I almost always get jumpy video in media center. meaning that the video tends to drop lots of frames, skip seconds at a time, and sometimes becomes out of sync with audio.

I keep my movies very organized, so things are easy to find and play in wmp, but the no mouse interaction of media center would be nice to have. I was under the impression that both are direct show players, so theoretically they should be equal, is this correct? is this a common issue? do you guys recommend other software that works better for HTPCs?

mods: feel free to move this if it belongs in the software thread, but i figured htpc was more specific to the kind of software.

hardware:
athlon 64 x2 5400
asus m3n-hd hdmi (using on board hdmi for audio and video)
