Burning .avi for dixplayer, should be straightforward?

I don't hear 'voices' when playing avi's on my divx player..

Basically I can burn an avi from my computer to a dvd and the picture quality is fine, and I get the background musical score and sound effects, but there are no voices. the same movies play fine on the computer with voices.

NB> I Use Infrarecorder?

One of the movies is Dark Knight which curiously burned ok last week. Now I don't get to hear what the actors are saying if I burn another copy.

Does anyone have any idea's what the issue is? I've searched high and low on the net but it's really difficult coming up with a search term for what's happening (sound but no sound with picture divx)

Sorry, should add:

I've tried three different dvd media
I've tried on two divx players
I've tried two lots of burning software.
It seems to be random (It never happened before last week but its now happened on two movies. That said, other movies have worked fine.)
