Well I have a computer down in my basement that I use for converting DVDs. The thing is it's a real annoyance to walk down to flights of stairs to turn on the computer. Ideally I'd use WOL but unfortunately my MoBo doesn't support it. So my only other alternative is to put the machine in sleep mode rather then powering it off and waking it via some kind of network call. Is it possible to do that and about how much power would it consume in sleep mode?

*edit*
I use TightVNC to control it.
