I just recently got an old laptop, Gateway 400sd4, 512mb ram, 2.4 ghz processor, and a 32meg video card built-in. I have heard of a thing called shared memory, and how you can use system memory for your video memory. I looked through my bios, and its too basic to make any changes there. I was wondering if there is another way to do this. And if the laptop only supports 512megs of ram if I get more ram can i use it for the video card?

the videocard is sharing the main ram of the computer as it does not have it's own ram. it is the same as onboard video for desktop computers as it shares the main ram. the max the laptop can use is 512meg.

You can do this, but there's no real point, it won't make the laptop able to play games any better.

The resolution is limited to 1024x768 because that's all the screen can display.
