4 gigs of ram with windows xp 32-bit

I have a computer with 4 gigs or ram, i had XP 64-bit but it really didnt work out for me, because i could never find drivers for it. Now i have 32-bit and it only reads less than 3 gigs of ram. My friend told me of a way to make windows xp 32-bit read all 4 gigs of my ram. He says there is a program that you can use that will do it all for you. Can anyone help out with this?

There is no way to do it, because fundamentally a 32-bit OS can't address 4GB of RAM. The workarounds are only going to cause problems elsewhere.

Do you have any more information on the whole 32-bit ram issues sam? I always thought the 3GB limit was set in stone, but I've heard of people saying they can use 3.5 or 4GB. I wondered if that was just some way for the OS to "see" the rest of the ram but not be able to access it. What are they doing to their systems?

3.5GB is possible if your Graphics card only has 512MB of memory. 4GB in full is only possible with a 64-bit OS.

As far as I know, the limit comes from 32-bit translating into 4 294 967 295 bytes, roughly 4GB. This is all the memory 32-bit XP can handle, and from it you have to subtract all the memory in the computer. This includes HDD caches, CPU cache, RAID card caches, graphics cards, RAM, etc.
I just did the el-stupidos by installing a 512MB (while something like 128MB would've sufficed) graphics card to drive a 32" LCD TV. Whoppidoo, now I have 320MB+512MB of graphics memory subtracted from the 32-bit limit :<

i have an XFX 9600GT XXX its got 512mb video ram, my ram is 4x corsair 1024mb ddr2800, and my mobo is XFX Nforce 680i LT, if that matters.

can anyone help me i put 2x1gig of ram from a toshiba ltop into my inspiron 1521 and its dead slow. is there something im doing wrong when i put it in on reboot i got a lot of tec words on screen. can anyone tell me if im doing something wrong? do i have to config it or something ?

I have "forced" a few 32 bit machines to use 4gb RAM regardless of the RAM on the graphics card.
As previously stated it is all down to how the O/S addresses memory, and with a 32 bit system it will struggle, but it can be done.
If you do a google search for "xp 32 bit 4gb /pae switch" you should find quite a few sites with info to assist you.
Let us know how you get on.

it appears that you can use 4 gigs of ram but only by not using other forms of memeory such as swap files and graphic card ram
windows adds up all the available ram and can only address a max of 4 gigs
most people will only see 3 cos the rest is used up by swap files and graphics
i wonder why with xp people moan it can't use all their ram.....
and in vista they complain because it does.......
