Hi,

I just bought a 2nd hand PS2. The price was fair and it looked in pretty good condition so i decided to buy it. It also came up with Swap Magic 3.6 for CD/DVD.
When i play original games it works well, games run quiet and smooth. The same happens when i play backed up cd´s using the swap magic 3.6 cd. However when it comes to backed up DVD´s and Swap Magic 3.6 DVD i can play decently for about 5 minutes but as time goes by the games start slowing up when it tries to read the DVD. Long blank screens and loooong loading times.
Since i have kids at home i try to avoid letting them use the original DVD´s to avoid scratches and so and backed up games is the obvious solution for them, so i´m trying to solve this problem in different ways:

I have tryed to vary the DVD brands (I tryed Sony and Verbatim mostly) and recorder speeds. Also tryed to burn with an older LG burner and the DVD burner wich comes with my portable PC.
Allways use Alcohol 120% for burning (it looks nice for this job).

I have also disassembled my slim SCH-70004 PS2 to clean the lens and check the laser mechanism: It all looks to be working fine! There wasnt any dust. However i cleaned the laser lens just to make sure and i saw that the sliding mechanism was properly lubricated.

Now i´m lost! I dont know if it´s a mechanical adjustment, lame Swap Magic issue, i dont know, so i decided to come here and post this info in some hope that someone who had the same problem can kindly help me.

Thanks advanced for your reading pacience,

Just to serve as a testemonial i fixed this problem! Here´s how i did it:

I´ve bought and replaced the laser mechanism wich can be anywhere on the internet.
The process was quite easy. No calibration or voltage adjustments were necessary. The only issue concerns the antistatic lid. The antistatic lid wich comes on the new laser units is a pain to remove for unexperienced people with no electronics experience like myself. It requires a solder iron (as thin as possible) some good hands and maybe a solder sucker wich i didnt use but it will be certainly handy for this job. The rest resumes to screwdriver job.
My PS2 is working fine and i´m happy playing on it again!

Cheers everybody,
