So I just got the flip top for my ps2 (non-slim) and swap magic 3.8 coder. I have backed up Shadow of the colossus, FFX, resident evil 4, mgs3 snake eater, god of war, and max payne. right now the only game that has been successfully loaded is god of war. with the rest i either get a black screen after i choose the display type or it goes to the memory card and then to the pink screen saying please insert ps2 disc.
i have a macbook and have toast 9, and i burn the iso's at 4x speed. i'm using verbatim dvd-r, (the ones that look like an old movie reel).
can anyone help me?
thanks

two pieces of information
- i noticed that all the iso's, other than shadow of the colossus and god of war, are over 4 gigs. i've read stuff about the sizes, something about making sure the original is larger or something? would this be a problem.
- for shadow of the colossus (which is under 4 gigs) i just get what i assume is the loading sign for the game. a spinning wheel of lights in the bottom right corner and it doesn't go any further than that.
thanks for any help

I am having this same exact problem. I know my disks are good though, because I tried a game that I backed up last year, and it worked fine then. I have tried multiple games that have worked before.
I don't think its the burned games.
Mine continuously goes back to the memory card screen then says "please insert a ps2 disk"
I was having problems with disk read errors earlier too, might that be related?
I am using a fliptop on an older model ps2.

yah same here, fliptop on old(fat) ps2. i find it a little weird that all but one of my games would successfully load. must be one issue affecting them all. i rebuilt mgs3 snake eater and got the konami logo, after that i just get a disc flashing which changes to a question mark and can't get past that. i rebuilt and burned shadow of the colossus but haven't yet tried loading that one.

come on, can someone at least speculate to what might be the problem? i'm new to the ps2 modding. should i try a different media? change to dvd+r, a different brand? i've burned with both toast 9 and disk utility and still no luck. could it be my ps2?

I cleaned my dvd lens, and it started working.
Let me know if that helps anyone else.

just burned shadow of the colossus at 2x with dvd decrypter on my pc instead of my mac. that game is working now. in the middle of the same process with mgs3-snake eater. we'll see if that works

well, i finally got it working. not sure what exactly was the culprit. i'm guessing burn speed. i had been burning the games with toast 9 titanium on my macbook, at the slowest possible speed (4x). however only one of the 6 games i burned was working. i re-burned the games on my pc, using dvd decrypter, at 2x speed. they're working now.

DVD decrypter always does the job. well, anyways:
Just put the write speed on 1X so 2X to be sure no uncopied data are left behind.
then use good DVD-R,(you could Use DVD+R but it's not recommended)
Also Clean the lens with Q-tip and rubbing alcohol.
Put you PS2 Upside down or use the stand so the little springs inside the Spinner and the Lens would reduce stress.
Be sure there is an Air Circulation in the room to avoid MotherBoard Overheating. this can slow down the performance of your PS2 (This is a Major cause for PS2 users)
Do not Overuse it.
I Know! I Know!........I'm a newbie!
